Founded in Mexico City in 1888, The American School Foundation is the oldest continuously operating accredited American School outside the U.S.

ASF is a non-profit organization that delivers a high-quality American independent education to international and Mexican students.

AMERICAN PROGRAM

The school is accredited by AdvancED, through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), as well as the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) in the U.S. All students follow this program’s requirements for the United States high school diploma, with optional Upper School coursework available through the IB, AP and Mexican programs described below.

IB PROGRAM

ASF is an IB World School offering three International Baccalaureate programs — the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP), which is an optional two-year program that offers Upper School students advanced-level work in a variety of areas. As an IB continuum school, ASF uses two aspects of the IB that are the staple of our programmes:

IB Learner Profile – used to promote ASF’s core values as the backbone to build international-mindedness.
Approaches to Learning – Skills that positively influence and support a student’s approach to lifelong learning. Our curriculum addresses these skills throughout the K-12 curriculum.

MEXICAN PROGRAM

The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP, Mexican Education Secretariat) revalidates ASF studies for grades K through 12, while the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM, National Autonomous University of Mexico) revalidates studies for grades 10 through 12. The Mexican program offers students validation of coursework for entry into other Mexican schools and universities affiliated with UNAM. ASF’s accreditations and high academic standards allow students to transfer to other schools around the world seamlessly.
